After two years it's finally done. This is a 49x31x25cm wooden box made as my part of an art trade with the awesome Baraka. I'm SO sorry for taking so long. Waaaah!
First of all finding the exact model was quite difficult and took weeks, if not months. After it got delivered I was a bit shocked that the wood was glazed and not untreated like it was shown on the product image. Well then to go, I thought. I tried several times to sketch the motif onto the glaze but it always smeared and wasn't clearly visible. I had several talks with my dad on how to apply the motif without corroding the glaze since I was scared of not finding the exact same glaze shade. Months flew by with sending the box to my dad and back, talking, searching in online forums to find a solution. At the end there was no other chance than to corrode the glaze. Doing so by hand worsened my typewriter's cramp almost resulting in an operation since my thumb's and wrist's joints calcified. After a long time of regeneration I took on sketching the motifs one by one and slowly started burning the outlines into the wood. Except for the Rarity Venus all other images were made by me; would give credit to the creator of the Rarity Venus but unfortunately google imagesearch didn't get any results and I lost the information of the original artist.

Anyway, after finishing the burning part I took off to the hardware stores to find a glaze that would perfectly fit with the original one. This, too, took quite some time since I rather invested more time to find a fitting shade than wasting time on getting the wrong one and painting it just to corrode it again. You can't imagine how glad I was seeing the glaze turning out wonderfully when dried! I think I've fainted. After glazing the colors were applied. Several layers were needed to recreate and deepen the colors of the original motif. Between each layer of glaze and color there were about 10-12 hours of drying time resulting in few weeks of eagerness to finish the box. As soon as the colors were set the box was varnished so the wood and the colors wouldn't wear off due to light and water. That's not all yet: I lined the the first two drawers on the sides and the bottom drawer with black fabric. The wood was so rough and I didn't want it to harm the fabrics and threads to be stored in there.

Right before GalaCon this year Baraka and his his lovely wife once again took us in as guests and seeing him cheering upon the box made me really glad. Once again a big sorry for making you wait so long, Baraka!

Made by me (Sundance).
