I just love historical stuff and I really love Madara/Mei a lot, so this had to come sooner or later. >w<

This time I wanted to draw something medieval, as I was quite inspired by reading some beautiful minnesongs of which I chose two as some sort of theme for this picture.

Since there is hardly anyone here who is able to read Middle High German, I also put the English translation here. =)

The first is from an unknown author:

Dû bist mîn, ich bin dîn:
des solt dû gewis sîn;
dû bist beslozzen in mînem herzen,
verlorn ist daz slüzzelîn:
dû muost och immer darinne sîn.

You are mine, I am yours
This you can be assured
I have locked you away in my heart
And thrown away the key
So you must always stay inside

And the second one is a very well-known piece from the most famous German minstrel, the wonderful Walther von der Vogelweide. It is called “Unter der Linden”:

Under der linden
an der heide
dâ unser zweier bette was
dâ muget ir vinden
schône beide
gebrochen bluomen unde gras
vor dem walde in einem tal!
Tandaradei
schône sanc diu nahtegal.

Ich kam gegangen
zuo der ouwe
dô was mîn friedel komen ê.
Dâ wart ich empfangen
hêre frouwe,
daz ich bin sælic iemer mê!
Kust er mich? Wol tûsentstunt!
tandaradei
seht wie rôt mir ist der munt!

Dô hete er gemachet
alsô rîche
von bluomen eine bettestat;
des wirt noch gelachet
inneclîche
kumt iemen an daz selbe pfat.
Bî den rôsen er wol mac -
tandaradei
merken wâ mirz houbet lac!

Daz er bî mir læge
wesse ez iemen
nu enwelle got so schamte ich mich,
wes er mit mir pflæge
niemer niemen
bevinde daz wan er und ich.
Und ein kleinez vogellîn -
tandaradei
daz mac wol getriuwe sîn!

Under the linden
by the meadow,
where our bed was,
there you can find,
beautifully broken,
the flowers and the grass.
Before the forest in a valley -
Tandaradei
Beautifully sang the nightingale.

I came walking
to the meadow,
my lover had come there already before.
There I was received,
(Holy Virgin!)
for that I am happy forever.
Did he kiss me? At least a thousand times.
Tandaradei
See, how red my mouth is!

There he made-
so splendidly,
a bed out of flowers.
Those will laugh,
heartily,
who come by on the path
and see by the roses,
Tandaradei
where my head lay.

That he lay with me-
if anyone knew
(God forbid) I would be ashamed.
How he was with me,
Never, no one
may find out, except for him and me,
and a little bird
Tandaradei
that will well keep my secret.

The artwork itself is strongly inspired from the illustrations in the medieval “Codex Manesse”. [link]

Furthermore I put two falcons in the pic, because they are also used as a motiv for minne-couples in medieval literature (for example in the “Nibelungenlied”). ^^

Please comment! Don't watch/fave and run! =)

P.S.: Ja, ich kann Deutsch. Ich bin lediglich zu faul, die Bildbeschreibung von DA hier extra nochmal umzuschreiben. ^^;
